Bug out bag, 72 hour kit, emergency backpack... they are basically all the same thing.
Just different ways of saying it.
Don't get caught up in WHICH one you need. Instead, don't get caught unprepared by not having ANY of them.
The beauty of making your very own bug out bag is that you can put in EXACTLY what you need. And if you prefer, there are also places you can purchase them online.
Here are Some Basic MUST HAVE'S for ANY 72 hour Kit or bug out bag!
A STRONG and sturdy pack... and if you can get one, a SOLAR pack is great as you can take some emergency power with you that way to keep batteries charged in your radios, flashlights, etc.
Make sure you have a good strong survival knife....this is huge as you will not want to be caught needing a knife in a survival situation or even simple things like opening a can of food, cutting rope for a tent, ect, will become tedious without a good knife.
You will need a Basic First Aid Kit... you can make your own but just make sure there are some basic first aid supplies, such as adhesive tape, ace bandage and pain killer in your bug out bag.
Food...Ah yes, don't forget the food.... Mountain House food packs are some of the best, or some jerky that is vacuum sealed, and energy bars.
And if you plan to make a run for the woods, you will want to study up on how to survive in the backwoods as well!
In conclusion... the point of all this is that you ARE PREPARED.
Regardless what type of pack you prepare, whether it is a 72 hour kit, or a bug out bag to last for several weeks, just make sure you do NOT USE any items from your pack.
Regardless how great our intentions are, it will be very frustrating to find items missing from your bag when you need them most.
